ArtVo Melbourne, A 3D Trick Art Gallery That Will Blow Your Mind
ArtVo Melbourne at The District Docklands is an immersive 3D art gallery where you can step inside the artwork, strike a pose and become part of the picture. This immersive exhibit of “trick art” located at the District Docklands, is the first of its kind in Australia.
What is ArtVo?
ArtVo is an immersive 3D “trick art” gallery located at The District Docklands in Melbourne.
Instead of simply looking at the artwork, visitors become part of it.
Stand in the right spot, strike a pose and suddenly it can look like you are hanging from a cliff, being chased by an animal, stepping into a fantasy world or right in the middle of an incredible 3D scene.
You do not need professional photography equipment either. A phone camera is all you need to create some amazing photos.
With more than 100 hand-painted artworks to explore, ArtVo is a fun Melbourne attraction for kids, teens, parents and grandparents, and one where the adults tend to get just as involved as the kids!
We recently visited with the kids and their Nanna and had such a fun time trying out different poses, getting creative with the photos and seeing who could come up with the best shot.
Each wall has been especially created to produce a 3D effect when you take a photo from the designated marker on the floor and position your camera or phone in the specified manor.
Unlike your usual art museum, you can touch and interact with more than a hundred 3D artworks immersing yourself.
We saw a something similar on our family trip to Hong Kong not long ago, but it was a small exhibition. ArtVo in Melbourne takes it to the next level.
Brand-New Exhibits at ArtVo Melbourne
ArtVo Melbourne has introduced brand-new exhibits, with plenty of new scenes and photo opportunities to discover.
The latest additions feature:
- More than 40 new artworks
- 15 artists
- More than 1,000 litres of paint
- Over 800 hours of work
- All hand-painted
There is also a really fun scavenger hunt too, where you can win prizes!
Even if you have visited ArtVo Melbourne before, the new exhibits give families plenty of reasons to return and explore the gallery again.
Tips for Taking the Best Photos
Many of the artworks are self-explanatory, but there are also boards which show you how to take the photo to get the best effect.
- Make sure to use for the photo point on the ground.
- Rather than smile in every photo, pull different faces to immerse yourselves and become the artworks.
- Follow the instructions on how to position your camera (landscape or portrait).
- Take a few different photos in different poses.
- Let the kids take photos of each other.
- Get creative and have fun.
ArtVo Melbourne is perfect for visiting as a family and one of the most unique museums in Melbourne. Toddlers and young children, as well as older children and adults can all enjoy this immersive 3D art gallery together.
There is pram access and plenty of space to walk around. It is doable in an hour or two depending on how long you stay at each artwork so perfect for those with small attention spans.
