Australian Butterfly Sanctuary Kuranda, Tropical Queensland
The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is one of the best day trips from Cairns and a must see if you are up in Kuranda. It is the largest butterfly flight aviary not only in Australia but in the Southern Hemisphere.

Located in Kuranda, the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is home to over 1500 butterflies.
These include local rainforest species such as the electric blue Ulysses, the majestic green and yellow Cairns Birdwing, and the Monarch butterfly.

You can walk around or choose to join a guided tour through the aviary where you can learn all about butterflies, and other interesting facts.

Check out the breeding laboratory, which has up to 4,000 caterpillars at all of their life stages so you can learn all about the life cycle.

There is also the opportunity to watch the daily butterfly release.
The track is pram friendly and the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary makes a great day out for all ages.
There are lots of photo opportunities, the butterflies are everywhere. The environment is beautiful and calming, and designed to be naturally like the butterflies natural habitat.

If you really want to attract them make sure to wear something bright during your visit. They love the bright colours like red and pink.
