Bimbi Park Review – A secluded Hideaway in the Otway Ranges
Bimbi Park is famous for “sleeping under the koalas”
In an Aboriginal language, bimbi means a place of many birds and the park’s bush land is alive with birds and various other wildlife all year round.
There are plenty of things to see and do inside the park itself, and also the surrounding areas. There is also a range accommodation options to suit all budgets including camp sites, onsite vans, and cabins if you want to stay overnight.
Things to do at Bimbi Park
You can do as much or as little as you want at Bimbi Park and almost everything is kid friendly so it makes the perfect family trip.
You really don’t need to go far to spot wildlife in at Bimbi Park, you are literally walking amongst it. Famously known for being able to sleep under the koalas, the statement is true, and all year round you can spot these amazing animals in the treetops morning and night.
Other than koalas you can spot other wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies, possums and over 70 different species of birds.
One of the memorable experiences at Bimbi Park the E-Bike Tour around the Otways. On the 90 minute tour you can take in some of the most amazing views of the Shipwreck Coast, and learn about the Cape’s unique history and ecology.
If you can ride a bike, you can ride these electric bikes, they make it fun and easy to ride up and down hills with little effort. They are comfortable and are great for all ages. For the little ones who can’t ride their own bike, they can be towed behind in a little cart so they don’t miss out on all the fun.
Visitors of all ages and abilities can enjoy a horse ride at Bimbi Park Rides. There are experienced horses, qualified instructors, safe trails and approved safety helmets. Even after rain, the sandy soil of the region makes for good riding.
If you are heading to Bimbi Park with the kids (which we highly recommend), they will love the playground. There is something for all kids to enjoy, and it is always filled with other kids so they will have someone to play with any time of the day.
For those who are feeling adventurous, you can try out the state of the art Rock climbing structure at Bimbi park. Suitable for all ages, challenge yourself to scale the wall and make it to the top.
Great Ocean Walk
For the adventurous, and those with older children, you can embrace part of the Great Ocean Road on foot via the Great Ocean Road Walk which starts in Apollo day and finishes at the iconic Twelve Apostles.
This track passes through the lush green forest and through Bimbi Park which is why many visitors choose to stay in the park on their way through. There are a variety of itineraries available depending on your fitness and experience, and you don’t have to do the whole walk (which takes around 8 days), you can opt for parts of the track instead.
Accommodation at Bimbi Park
There are a range of accommodation options at Bimbi Park for every budget. So whether you have your own caravan or camping gear and want to camp under the koalas, or you prefer to sleep inside in one of the pods or cabins, you will no doubt find something to suit.
We got the chance to stay in the new off the grid solar cabins which were super comfortable for a family of four. They feature a large bed plus a set of bunks which were perfect for the kids.
There is a kitchenette, an indoor table and a separate bathroom. on the balcony there are some chairs and a table as well, perfect for sitting outside in the evenings.
There is even the opportunity to light your own fire out the front of the cabin too which is great.
