Breakfast with the Koalas, Wild Life Sydney Zoo
Breakfast with the koalas? Yes please! If you’re looking for a fun, unique and exciting way to start the day Wild Life Sydney’s Koala Breakfast is a must do!

Wildlife Sydney Zoo
Conveniently based in Darling Harbour in the heart of Sydneys CBD, Wildlife Sydney is home to many Australian icons including the koala, kangaroo, platypus and wombat as well as many endangered animals such as the Tasmanian Devil, Goodfellow Tree Kangaroo and Bilbies.
As the zoo is predominantly undercover and is airconditioned it is the perfect all weather activity.

Koala Breakfast, Wildlife Sydney Zoo Tour
The Koala Breakfast starts with a guided tour of the zoo accompanied by the keepers who happily share their knowledge about some of Australia’s most loved and unique animals.
The keepers are friendly, humorous, and happy to answer any questions you may have. The group size is small enough that you can see all the enclosures easily and even the littlest visitors can see all the animals up close and personal.

The paths are level, doors are wide and there is a lift to accommodate those who may have a stroller, wheelchair or limited mobility to access the rooftop breakfast at the end.
The tree Kangaroos were a great start to the tour with all guests fascinated by their long dangly tails which are used to aid their balance on tree branches. We were amazed to hear they can leap almost 9metres despite their relatively small size!
As the tour continued we saw and learnt about a wide variety of animals including the diamond python, sugar glider, various lizards and insects, whistling ducks and the impressive and slightly intimidating Cassowary named ‘Princess’. Princess has what resembles a golden crown on her head, a striking blue and red face and claws reminiscent of the prehistoric era.
Up next were the Tasmanian Devils who despite their name were clear favourites with keepers for their playful and cute nature. They were smaller than I had anticipated and it was fun to hear how the pink inside of their pointed ears are said to reflect the light at night giving the appearance of horns, hence their name.
We continued on towards the Saltwater crocodile enclosure which was unique in that it allowed for an underwater view of these amazing animals as well as a view from above into their pool. It was fascinating and a little scary to find out that they can go without food for up to a year if needed!

Finally, a walk through the wallaby enclosure allowed a glimpse of what was to come as a few sleepy eyes peeped out from behind the leaves up in the branches above. The wallabies roamed around us and seemed as interested in us as we were in them.
Koala Breakfast, Wildlife Zoo Sydney
At the end of the tour we exited onto the enclosed roof top area for the much anticipated breakfast with the koalas.

The koalas were everywhere climbing the branches around us merely a metre or two away! They lazed in the trees with their furry ears and leathered noses gently angling towards us.

The breakfast area is surrounded on two sides by the trees and branches, with glass balustrades allowing for great views of these beautiful animals for all.
The buffet breakfast was warm and plentiful with a variety of hot and cold foods, fruit, teas and coffee, juice, toast and spreads.

The seating area was spacious and there was plenty of time to enjoy your meal while taking in the unique and beautiful koalas surrounding us.
After breakfast there is a photo behind the railings, and we were able to see the koalas face to face- a truly breathtaking and memorable experience!

We were then free to explore the numerous exhibits again at our leisure as we made our way back through the zoo.
The morning really is a wonderful start to the day, perfect activity for the school holidays, a special occasion or for visiting friends and family. Highly recommended for all ages and abilities.
Wildlife Sydney is a short walk from Wynyard or Town Hall station. There are multiple parking stations close by with discounted parking for visitors. Alternatively any bus that stops near Market or King street will get you there with a short and easy walk into Darling Harbour.
