Cairns Aquarium – Explore the Great Barrier Reef & Rainforests
Looking for an indoor activity in Cairns for kids? The Cairns Aquarium is one of the newest Cairns attractions showcasing a large variety of marine life and corals from Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Cairns Aquarium
One of the newest Cairns attractions is the Cairns aquarium which opened in September 2017. This sea life discovery is one of the best things to do in Cairns for families who want to learn more about the underwater world.
Journey through the coral sea of the Great Barrier Reef and freshwater rivers and creeks of the tropical rainforest.
Watch animal presentations, and habitat talks and even watch the daily shark feeds.
Get up close to rare and endangered marine life, and even scubadive with the sharks!

Cairns Aquarium is also the only aquarium in the world to exclusively showcase the wildlife from the two World Heritage listed environments, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest which are totally reliant on each other for their co-existence.
One of the main highlights is the 20m long underwater viewing tunnel which gives you a 360 degree view of the viewing tank and shark lagoon. Here you can see sharks, giant stingrays, unicorn fish and many other Great Barrier Reef marine life.

The Cairns aquarium isn’t as big as some of the other aquariums in Australia such as Sealife Melbourne, however it is still definitely worth a visit if you are visiting Cairns with kids.
