The Cairns lagoon is a 4800sqm free saltwater swimming lagoon and one of the most popular swimming spots around Cairns. It is a great spot to spend the morning, afternoon, or even the whole day.

Families especially love the Cairns lagoon because it offers a safe place to swim with sand so it feels like the beach, but without the fear of bumping into any stingers or crocodiles which are known the region. Also, because there are lifeguards patrolling while the lagoon is open.

The lagoon is a walk in with various depths with the deepest is 1.6mtrs so you will need to supervise your little ones.

It’s strategic location, along the esplanade makes it a popular place for family catch ups, playdates, picnics and birthday parties. There are shops and cafes across the street, BBQ facilities, and a free shower block to use after your swim.

Not far from the lagoon you can also find Muddy’s Playground, the water play area for kids, which is another popular attraction for families in Cairns. Many families split their time between the two areas during their Cairns family holiday.
