Set on a large property in Scoresby, around 40 mins South East of Melbourne, Chesterfield Farm is a historical farm that now operates as a children’s farm offering a real hands-on experience of farm life to families around Melbourne and beyond.
Open 7 days a week, Chesterfield Farm makes the perfect family day out in Melbourne and is open in all weather conditions so don’t be afraid to don the gumboots and jackets as it is all part of the experience.
There are plenty of farmyard activities to keep everyone busy and happy.
You can take a tractor ride ($3) which will show you around the property. This runs at various times throughout the day.
The baby animal nursery is where you can get up close and pat a range of baby animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, little chicks, and even piglets.
You can buy bags of food for just $1.50 and hand feed a range of animals from sheep, goats, deer, and even the emus and kangaroos!
Unlike some farms, you are able to get up close to most of the animals while feeding them, rather than being behind the fence which is great.
There are plenty of farm shows throughout the day which are popular for all ages, so make sure to check the schedule. You can have a go at milking a cow, see how cream is made, and even see a whip cracking demonstration.
Before you go home, make sure to check out their little shop. Chesterfield Farm even sell their own milk, eggs, honey, and a range of delicious cheeses. Support local!
