Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Gold Coast
If you are looking for Things to do on the Gold Coast with kids the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is an attraction not to be missed.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a non profit organisation that has been conserving native wildlife for over 70 years. It is a heritage-listed zoological garden with 27 hectares of natural eucalyptus-rich bushland and rainforest.
If you are from Melbourne, it is a bit similar to Healesville Sanctuary. Home to a huge range of native mammals, but also reptiles, birdlife, amphibians, as well as some exotic species, it makes a great day out for kids that the whole family will love.

What to expect at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
There is plenty to see from the word go.
Collect your park map when you enter the sanctuary. There are daily shows to watch including a lorikeet feeding, a pelican and eel show and more.
Make sure to take a look at the times of the shows and feedings so you can plan your day out and make the most of it all.
There are different exhibits spread around the park.
You can watch the wild lorikeet feeding and free-flight bird shows. There are wildlife hospital presentations as well as Aboriginal culture shows.
Kangaroos are also a main feature, freely roaming around greeting visitors. You can get some food for $4 and feed them them, they love the attention and all the kids seem to love the interaction.

The kids will love Wild Island, the huge outdoor themed playground and the miniature train that takes you around the park. If you have one, you can bring your pram too.

There are also some fantastic animal encounters including being able to hold and cuddle the iconic koala, one of the only places in Australia you can do so. The photos are fantastic and make a great keepsake. Note that the koala feeding does have an extra fee.

If you aren’t doing the encounters, not to worry, there is an abundance of koalas to view from in the sanctuary, it is fantastic.

There are so many other animals, reptiles, and birds to see too as you wonder along the paths.

Mum’s Little Explorers visited while the extinction trail and the kids loved seeing all of the dinosaur statues.

There are lots of volunteers around the park helping to guide visitors and answer questions. They are really friendly so don’t hesitate to ask.
