Disney On Ice Melbourne: Tips, Hacks and Everything Parents Should Know Before You Go
Planning to take the kids to Disney On Ice in Melbourne? We’ve been going to this magical show every year since our kids were little, and it’s one of our favourite family events.
Over the years we’ve learned a few helpful tips and insider hacks that can make your Disney On Ice experience smoother, cheaper and even more fun. Here’s everything parents should know before heading to Disney On Ice in Melbourne.

Getting to Disney On Ice at Rod Laver Arena: Parking and Transport Tips
Getting to Disney On Ice at Rod Laver Arena can be VERY busy, especially if the show coincides with peak hour or other major events in Melbourne. We always try to arrive at least an hour early. Parking queues, bag checks and merchandise lines can take longer than expected. If you have a pram you will need to check it in as well.
Where to park near Rod Laver Arena
The closest undercover parking is Eastern Plaza Car Park at Melbourne Park, but it must be pre-booked and usually sells out quickly. If we are planning to drive we always book our parking as soon as we have our tickets and the bookings are open! Don’t risk missing out. Parking costs around $20–$30.
You can also park at Wilson Parking locations such as Flinders Gate or Federation Square, then either walk (10–15 minutes) or take the tram #70 to Melbourne Park.
Using Public Transport
Public transport is often the easiest way to reach Disney On Ice.
- Tram: The Route 70 tram runs along Flinders Street and stops at Rod Laver Arena (Stop 7B). During Disney On Ice, extra trams usually run between Flinders Street Station and Melbourne Park.
- Train: You can arrive at Richmond Station which is about a 15-minute walk or Flinders Street Station: around a 20-minute walk to Rod Laver Arena

Disney on Ice Bag Rules
Rod Laver Arena rules say that you can bring a bag in but it must not be bigger than A4 size. For family events they are a little lenient. When we go we generally bring a sports backpack which is around that size or slightly bigger and we have never had a problem. I always see parents with nappy bag backpacks in there as well.
Your bag is checked on arrival by security when you enter Rod Laver Arena. You can bring in drinks and snacks but no glass bottles, alcohol, cans etc. We always pack snacks for the kids even if we intend on buying something there, as we know kids are always snackish during the show.

What are the best seats for Disney on Ice at Rod Laver Arena?
Honestly, over the years we have at in all different sections and haven’t had a problem. Even the nosebleeds at the back still have a great view. We have sat to the side, in front, and even right at the back on the top level one year, and still had a great time.
I wouldn’t waste money on the front row seats, yes you are closer to the rink but because you are lower it is harder to see especially for the kids.
Our Pick for best seats: We love the lower section in the front half either on the angle or directly in front. Seats here give you prime view of the whole stage while still elevated enough to see the whole rink.
This year we sat in the lower level section 17 on the angle, and it was honestly amazing!

Disney On Ice Money-Saving Hacks
One thing parents quickly realise is that souvenirs at Disney On Ice can be expensive. The first few shows we went to we spent so much money but over the years we have found a few easy ways to save money while still keeping the magic.
Buy Disney accessories before the show
Check out places like Kmart, Target, Big W or even Amazon. You can usually things that cost a fraction of the price compared to the arena merchandise stands.
Things such as Princess dresses, Mickey and Miney Ears are great. For this year we found the cutest little Disney wand at Kmart for just $12! Bringing a wand or costume from home means kids still feel part of the magic without spending a lot inside.
Pack your own snacks
Food can be expensive inside and there isn’t always a huge variety. You are allowed to bring a small bag with you that fits under your seat. While we generally purchase some food from the venue, we always pack some fruit and snacks for the kids as they generally get hungry during the show.
