Not only will they get a tour of the farm and the animals, but they also get to get right into proper farm work, shovelling, raking, cleaning and even some woodworking, creating their very own project to take home.
It is a great opportunity to get the kids off the screens, and out and about for the day.

Farmer for a Day Review
Farmer for a Day is a full day school holiday program, so you drop the kids off early morning at 9am and pick them up around 4pm in the afternoon. Kids aged 8-14 can attend without parents. There are selected days available each school holidays.
Our kids, 8 years old and 10 years old absolutely loved the experience and met lots of friends on the day.
The daily program can change, but usually include 3 sessions: Farm tour, wood working, and Farm work. Read about what Mum’s Little Explorers did below.
Farm Tour

First up was a farm tour where the Farm leaders took the group of kids around the farm to meet all the different animals.
From cuddling guinea pigs, to hanging with the sheep, patting the horses and lots more.

The tour included all parts of the farm, so the kids got to see where everything happens.
Woodworking
Next up was woodworking. Each child got to make their very own insect home out of wood which was really cool.

With supervision, the kids were armed with safety gear and were encouraged to work independently using different tools to create their project.
While the farm leaders are there to help, it is the kids that do all of the work themselves and making mistakes is all a part of the experience. They were all drilling holes and screwing their wood together.
Working together in pairs, they gain so many diverse skills including multitasking and teamwork.

They also got to use the burners where they decorated their wood to create their very own masterpiece.
Each child came out with something they have made all by themselves, all the kids were super proud of themselves.

Farm Work
After a lunch break and run around, next up was some real farm work getting their hands dirty. It was time to clean up the guinea pig Coop!
Each child had a job, whether it was picking up the old straw, raking and shovelling up the mess, or cleaning out the water bowls etc. It was great to see everyone working together as a team.

4pm was time to say goodbye to the farm leaders and the new friends they had met. The smiles on the kids faces said it all, such a great day!
If you have animal lovers and kids that like to be outdoors, the Collingwood Children’s Farm is a fantastic outdoor school holiday program where kids can get a real farm experience.
