Girasole Sunflower Farm, Yarra Valley
Every summer when the sunflowers bloom, we head straight back to Girasole Sunflower Farm in the Yarra Valley. It’s one of our favourite low-cost family outings near Melbourne and is fun for all ages. Perfect for a scenic walk, beautiful photos and letting the kids run through golden fields of sunflowers.

Girasole Sunflower Farm, Yarra Valley
Girasole Sunflower Farm is a seasonal sunflower field located in Wandin North in the Yarra Valley, around an hour from Melbourne. Open during peak bloom (usually January–February), it’s a simple but stunning family-friendly outing that we genuinely look forward to every year.
So easy to visit, once you enter, you’re free to wander through rows and rows of towering sunflowers at your own pace. The pathways are flat and easy to walk, making it suitable for toddlers through to teens (and grandparents too).

We always end up taking far more photos than planned. It’s also a great spot if you just want a peaceful wander surrounded by countryside views.
This year we took kids aged 5, 7, and 9. They loved running between the rows of sunflowers. Before leaving we purchased freshly cut sunflowers to take home. Our kids chose a few to cut themselves and they look amazing in our kitchen at home!

It’s not a playground or café-style attraction, it’s a working farm with open dirt paths, so wear closed shoes and bring hats and water on warm days.
We usually spend a couple of hours here, you could combine it with lunch or another stop in the Yarra Valley to make a full day of it.
If you’re searching for sunflower fields near Melbourne, Yarra Valley family activities, or a summer school holiday idea, this one is a winner.
