Lillydale Lake Picnic Area Water Activities & Walking Track, Lilydale
In the outer east of Melbourne, the Lillydale Lake is the perfect place for a day out. Take a stroll, walk or jog around the lake, have a picnic by the water, go fishing, or head out on your paddleboards, canoe or kayak. There is also an amazing playground for the kids too!
Lillydale Lake
The Lillydale Lake (spelled the original way) has everything you need for a day out. It is a man made lake surrounded in beautiful wetlands.
With 10kms of trails it is great for a stroll, jog, or bike ride. The Lillydale Lake is also a popular spot for water activities.
Non powered boats are permitted on the lake and it is also one of the best places to paddleboard or kayak near Melbourne for beginners.
Fishing is also popular and there is a sand bank where you will often see people splashing around or swimming on the shore.
The parkland is dog friendly and there are two designated off lead areas where you can let your dog run around. Dogs must be on a lead though in other areas, make sure to check the signage.
Lillydale Lake Picnic Area
The Lillydale Lake makes a great place to picnic for a day out. There is so much space and plenty of places to set up.
It is a popular spot for gatherings and birthday parties. You can find various sheltered tables and BBQ’s, but also plenty of trees to sit under as well. Some people even bring cabanas and chairs.
There is a coffee van set up most days that sells beverages and some snacks (no hot food). In the warmer months the ice-cream van is usually around too.
The playground is huge, great for the kids to burn off some energy, and the water play area is popular in the summer months.

Lillydale Lake Walking Track
The walk around the lake is around 3km and is flat and easy. It is a gravel or dirt track most of the way and you can even bring your pram if you like.
You just follow the lake around, it is hard to get lost if you keep to the side of the lake.
In the warmer months it is great to do the walk around sunset as it is cooler and the colours are gorgeous.
There are lots of places to sit and rest, lots of grassy areas, some random chairs along the way, and even a fitness station if you want a work out.
