If your kids love paint, slime, pouring, scooping, sticking, splashing, or just generally making a huge mess, Little Buttons Messy Play is a sure winner.

Located in Chelsea, in Melbourne’s South East, Little Buttons Messy Play is a great spot for locals but definitely somewhere worth travelling for.

The space is set up with multiple activity stations and offers unstructured play time for young kids who are free to wander, explore, and switch between areas at their own pace.

From colourful sensory trays to painting, gluing, water play, and more, our little one was completely absorbed the entire time moving from each station once he had created his masterpieces.

The staff are fantastic, super friendly, calm, and constantly replenishing supplies and tidying the space so the kids always have fresh things to play with.

One of the best parts? There’s no time limit. Unlike some playcentre sessions where you’re rushed out after an hour, you can stay right up until closing. We ended up spending a relaxed morning soaking up some one on one time, and it flew by.

If your child creates artwork, staff will pop it straight onto the drying racks so you can collect it on the way out (or even later). I took ours home but realised afterwards that I’d left half of it behind as he had made so much!

They provide smocks if you want them, though be prepared that kids might ditch them once they’re wet or dirty. We used one at first, but it ended up coming off and our little one happily continued getting messy so avoid dressing them in anything too nice and maybe pack a spare set of clothes.

Overall, it’s great value for money considering everything is set up for you including art supplies, sensory trays, messy play materials, paint, tools, and themed stations. All you need to do is show up and let the kids explore.
