Melbourne Royal Show, Tips for your Family Visit
The Melbourne Royal Show is one of Melbourne’s biggest annual family events. Held every spring at the Melbourne Showgrounds in Flemington, it combines agriculture, entertainment, food, rides, and showbags into one massive celebration.

Melbourne Royal Show 2026
I remember going to the Melbourne Royal show with my family when I was kid, and I still remember the excitement of walking through the gates, racing to the Animal Nursery, and picking out our favourite showbags. So much fun!
It seems to be an annual tradition for many Melbourne families and has continued through generations.
The Melbourne Royal Show 2026 runs from Thursday 24 September to Sunday 4 October, there are new farm experiences, various new playful attractions and entertainment for families.
Here’s what families can look forward to this year and our top tips for visiting Melbourne Royal show.

Highlights for Families at the Melbourne Show
Animal Nursery & Farmyard
Always a favourite with kids, the Sunrise Animal Nursery offers the chance to interact with the cutest baby farm animals. You can feed the lambs, pat the piglets, and watch the chicks, goats, alpacas, ducklings, and more.
At the farmyard they can dive into activities like Wool Collecting, Digging for Veg, Apple Picking, Egg Gathering, Carrot Harvesting, and even mini Kubota Tractor Rides.

Carnival Rides
Whether it’s gentle rides in the Kids Carnival for the little ones, or the Thrill Seeker Zone for older kids and teens, the rides are always a highlight and there’s something for everyone. Plus, hop on the free Metro Train Ride for a scenic tour of the Show!
Make sure to get your ride tickets online when you book your tickets because you get a great discount, more rides for less! This was great for us this year because our kids are older and wanted to go on the thrill rides that cost much more!

PAW Patrol Playland
Open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm, PAW Patrol Playland brings Adventure Bay to life with free, hands-on fun for little adventurers and their families.
Explore interactive play zones and meet the pups, Marshall, Chase, Skye and Rubble throughout the day and enjoy unforgettable family photo moments.

Showbags
No trip to the Show is complete without choosing a showbag! From toys to treats, there’s something for everyone. Browse online before you go so the kids know what to expect.

Live Entertainment & Fireworks
The Showgrounds come alive with roving performers, music, and stage shows. From Gabby’s Dollhouse musical celebration to the Madagascar Penguins Dance Party and Care Bears, there’s action packed excitement around every corner.
Enjoy community spirit with live performances at the Victorian Community Pavilion and so much more!
At night, the spectacular fireworks light up the sky, a magical way to end the day.
Food & Fresh Produce
There are over 70 vendors spread across the grounds offering everything from quick snacks to sweet treats. From gourmet treats to classic Show favorites, the Melbourne Royal Show offers a sensational food experience for every palate.
After Dark Fun
As the sun sets, the food scene heats up! From 5pm onwards, the lights of the rides, the buzzing atmosphere, and the fireworks make the Showgrounds feel extra magical. A great option for families with older kids.
