Mount Bishop Summit Hike Wilsons Prom
If you are heading to Wilson Prom, no doubt you will be looking for some bushwalking. The area is well known for walks and hikes and there are some great options for all ages.
Mount Bishop is one of the more popular hikes, along with Mount Oberon. Standing at 319 metres high, the Mount Bishop Summit hike is a challenging hike where you are rewarded with panoramic views over Squeaky Beach and Whisky Bay.
The hike starts at the same carpark as the Lilly Pilly track, just on the opposite side.

The Mount Bishop track is more rugged than the one to Mount Oberon, and much more narrow with lots of large rocks and stones to walk over walking through the eucalypt forest. The view however is just as beautiful once you reach the top.

Once you do reach the top there is a plateau where many would think the walk is finished. It is only a teaser, however.

You need to keep walking through to the other side and up the granite boulders to get to the very top, which is when you are really rewarded with the spectacular views.

To return you take the same track back to the bottom. If you want to extend your walk, continue onto the Lilly Pilly track.
You will need moderate fitness levels to reach the summit. We did this hike with our kids aged 8 and 10 and they did really well, however we hike with them quite a bit.
If you are thinking of taking the kids see our post Tips for Hiking with Kids.
Our best tip would be to leave early morning if you visit during the warmer months as it can get quite humid and warm walking up.
Be prepared, bring lots of water on warm days and snacks too. The top of Mount Bishop can be quite windy and cool in the winter months but also in the warmer months too. It can also get slippery in wet weather, and the cliffs are unprotected so take care.
