Organ Pipes National Park
Park your car on the top of an old volcano and explore the Organ Pipes National Park which is located on the edge of one of the world’s largest volcanic lava flows stretching 350kms to the border of Victoria.
One of the closest national parks to the city, this little gem gets its name from it’s the amazing rock formations called the Organ Pipes which is its main attraction.
These pipes were formed a million years ago by the cooling and cracking of volcanic lava and rise to 20 metres in height, looking over the peaceful Jackson Creek.

There is a 1.5km trail to walk around where you follow the creek.
You will pass Rosette Rock which resembles the spokes of a giant wheel and overhangs the northern bank of the stream. (To most people, it will really just look like a big rock).
Further along you will arrive at the Tessellated Pavement which is a basalt outcrop with a tiled or mosaic-like appearance. The kids loved hopping over the rocks and exploring around.

The walking trail is short and quite easy, around 1.5kms, making it perfect for families to walk around. There is just one steep hill at the end.
There are a few seats to stop and rest, and there is a beautiful picnic area to have lunch and enjoy the serenity.
