PirateFest, Seaworks Williamstown
Ahoy Mateys!!! If you’re looking for a unique school holiday activity in Melbourne for kids, PirateFest is a fun, interactive pirate experience that has just opened in time for school holidays.
Located inside the historic Seaworks Museum, this immersive exhibition brings the world of pirates to life through a mix of real history, storytelling and interactive experiences.
We took the kids and paired it with a play in the park by the pier afterwards. It was a great morning out.

What is PirateFest?
PirateFest is an immersive pirate exhibition in Melbourne that explores the real history of pirates, from early seafarers through to the infamous Golden Age of piracy.
It’s set up like a walk-through experience, with different themed zones combining museum-style displays and theatrical elements to keep kids engaged as they move through.

What to expect at PirateFest?
You’ll find a mix of education and entertainment, making it ideal for families, school-aged kids and anyone interested in history with a fun twist.
What amazed me was how realistic everything looked. The life-size pirate figures are incredibly detailed and looked so real it was hard to tell at first glance.
The kids loved moving between the different zones, especially getting to meet and interact with the pirate characters and and digging for treasure.

Interactive Activities for Kids
PirateFest isn’t just about looking at displays, there are plenty of interactive elements designed for kids, including:
• A pirate treasure hunt throughout the exhibition
• A hands-on treasure dig area for younger kids
• Holographic pirate “ghosts” sharing stories
• Props and sets that encourage exploration and curiosity
This mix of activities keeps kids engaged the whole way through, without it feeling too long or overwhelming.
The experience takes around an hour, and you can take your time in each section with no need to rush. There’s enough to see and do, but not so much that they lose interest.

Things to Do in Williamstown After Your Visit
One of the biggest bonuses of PirateFest is its location in Williamstown, which makes it easy to turn into a half or full day out.
After our visit, we headed down to Gem Pier for a walk. The views of the Melbourne skyline are beautiful, and it’s a great spot for kids to explore.
There’s also a nearby playground where the kids had a run around, plus plenty of cafes and restaurants if you want to grab a bite to eat.
