Queens Park & Playgrounds, Moonee Ponds
Right in the heart of Moonee Ponds, Queens Park is one of the most popular and picturesque green spaces in Melbourne’s inner north. With shady trees, wide grassed areas, two playgrounds, a lake, gardens, and even a café, we love it for a day out or just a morning walk and play.
Queens Park, Moonee Ponds
Queens Park in Moonee Ponds has it all, it’s the kind of place you don’t just pop into for a quick play, you could spend a whole morning or afternoon here. Our kids love running around.
The Lake & Gardens

At the heart of Queens Park is the stunning lake, complete with water fountains, an island, and plenty of birdlife.
It is such a beautiful walk. There is a wide gravel path that circles the lake, branching off to different parts of the park. The tracks are flat so they are pram friendly, and wheelchair accessible, making it easy for families of all ages and abilities to get around.

Walking the main loop only takes around 20 minutes or so, though we stop along the way to enjoy the scenery or play at the playground so it takes us a bit longer.
The park’s expansive lawns are perfect for ball games, our kids always love kicking the soccer ball around.

It’s also a great spot for a picnic too or simply an afternoon lounging under the trees. Pack some food and a picnic blanket for a leisurely day in the sunshine.
On certain weekends, the park often comes alive with concerts and community events including the much loved Carols by Candlelight. With its large open spaces and central location, it’s the perfect gathering place for families.
The Playgrounds

Queens Park has not one, but two playgrounds to keep kids entertained. The main wooden playground is large and full of adventure, with climbing structures, slides, and swings, a favourite with older kids who can easily spend hours exploring.

On the other side of the lake you’ll find a smaller playground that’s more suited for toddlers. It’s close to the café, making it a great option if you want to grab a coffee while your little ones play safely.

Queens Park Outdoor Pool
For summer fun, Queens Park is also home to a popular outdoor swimming pool. There’s a 50m lap pool for serious swimmers, a smaller pool, and even a toddler friendly wading pool complete with a plastic frog slide, the perfect way for kids to cool off on hot days.
What’s Nearby?
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby. If you didn’t pack a picnic, head across the road to one of our favs, Il Caminetto, a cosy Italian restaurant serving authentic woodfired pizzas, fresh pasta, and traditional desserts.
Other places nearby include the nearby iFly, and DFO Essendon Feilds
