Rising Melbourne 2023: The Wilds, Sidney Myer Music Bowl
The Rising Festival in Melbourne – The Wilds, is an enchanted winter night out for the family surrounded by the lights of the city. The Sidney Myer Music Bowl is transformed full of illuminated installations, ambient music, yummy treats and ice skating. Throw on your winter gear and head out for a Melbourne night full of magical charm.

Let your imagination flourish under the cover of dark. Light, music, food, ice and art is blooming in the night garden.
The experience starts before you even reach the entrance. Music floats through the air as beams of light escape the top of the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Huge light boards welcome you to The Wilds.
The landscape is covered with loads of giant balloon-like, colour changing sculptures.
The combination of music, light, and projections makes for some overwhelmingly beautiful art that every age can truly appreciate.
The Rinky Dink ice skating rink is filled with gorgeous music from a live choir and topped with more colourful sculptures. If you’re lucky you might even spot some fabulous, glittery creatures walking around the rink area.
A food truck park is set up with loads of picnic tables, bean bag chairs and fire pits. There are QR codes on each table so you can see the menu, order food on your phone then get a text message when the food is ready for pick up.
No waiting in long lines! Simply sit at your table with your family and enjoy the beautiful night. Or you can book into the Lighthouse for an intimate glasshouse bistro experience.
The organisers have done a wonderful job making this event fully accessible so it’s easy for everyone to get around whether walking, pushing a pram or in a wheelchair (a free companion ticket is allowed for those with mobility issues). There are also multiple toilet facilities throughout.
While there is some street parking it’s normally quite busy and not super easy to find a spot so public transport is probably a better bet. The walk from Flinders Street Station is quite enjoyable with the Arts Centre fountain and screens of animated birds along the street.
