SEALIFE Sydney Aquarium
SEALIFE Sydney Aquarium is one of the most popular things to do in Sydney with kids. If you have a Merlin membership it is one of the included attractions.
Sydney’s Sea Life Aquarium is smack dab in the middle of Darling Harbour in Sydney, right next door to the Wildlife Sydney Zoo and Madame Tussards Wax Museum, which are also included in the pass.
Since we have a SEALIFE in Melbourne I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be that different, but I was very wrong. There were loads of new things to see and enjoy.
I have always loved manatees and have been very interested in the Australian cousin, the dugong. When I realised there was a dugong exhibit, I think I was even more excited about the aquarium visit than my kids.
Pig, the resident dugong was happy to say hello, play with a big orange ball and eat lots of lettuce leaves as we watched along.
We tried out the glass bottom boat experience and the whole family loved it. Our guide knew all of the animals by name and told us about the individual quirks and personality traits of each creature.
There was a definite love of the underwater animals she spoke about. She even pointed out a secret sleeping spot for one of the turtles that we could see as we were leaving.
The ride through the penguin enclosure was also a big crowd favourite. Watching a penguin swim is one of the greatest sights to see.
There are always lots of talks and feedings happening throughout the aquarium that the kids loved too.
If you plan to visit on the weekend or school holidays it does get very crowded so try and go later in the afternoon when the crowds die down a bit.
There are loads of lovely restaurants along Darling Harbour so you could have a nice family dinner after.
Darling Harbour is about a 25 minute walk from Circular Quay or you can take a water taxi that stops steps away from the Aquarium.
