The Oaks Lilydale offer premium luxury accommodation in the Yarra Valley. Perfect for those looking to explore the area, attending a local wedding, or just wanting to get away for a night or two.
In addition to the two stunning cottages on their property, they also offer a vintage tram stay option which is the primary attraction for families with young kids.
We visited as a family of four and it exceeded our expectations, the kids especially were so excited to be sleeping in a unique piece of Melbourne’s history!
Tram Accommodation Near Melbourne
The newly renovated 1935 Old Melbourne Tram is named “Doris” and has been restored in the bygone era style. The tram is located on a beautiful 2-acre historic property in Lilydale, Victoria – home of the beautiful Yarra Valley.
As you drive up you view the perfectly landscaped driveway and paths leading to the cottages and Doris stands out right away. “Doris” has 2 bedrooms, 1 in each end carriage, and each with a double bed, so it is perfect for a sleeping a small family.
Inside there is a small lounge area with TV, a bathroom with shower and toilet. There is also a small kitchen with fridge, convection microwave, toaster, kettle & all cutlery & crockery as well.
We loved that the kitchen fridge was stocked on arrival with breakfast items, coffee, tea, milk, and even tomato sauce! They offer luxury linen & towels, WIFI, plus full air conditioning and heating.
Outside you have large covered decking areas that are connected to the tram so it looks like “Doris” has just pulled into the tram stop.
There is a gas BBQ is also outside on the deck if you decide you would like to cook. These entertaining areas are great to have a drink, bbq and relax & enjoy the garden views.
The kids can jump into the front of the tram and pretend to be the conductor. Or you can raid the little waiting area shed for garden games and chill out on the lawn area.

Our family absolutely loved the tram stay at The Oaks Lilydale Accommodation. The owner, Kerry, was very welcoming and provided us with everything we could have needed for our stay.
For such an old tram, it has been done up fantastic for a unique stay with all of the extra little details such as planters in the form of a tram, or Melbourne mugs, and posters inside.
Highly recommend The Oaks Lilydale Accommodation tram stay if you are looking for something different and unique, it will be a hit with the kids especially.

Things to do Yarra Valley
There are so many things to do nearby if you make a weekend out of it.
Lilydale Lake is a five minute drive and makes a great spot for a picnic. There is a huge playground with water play too. They have a coffee van and ice cream van there too in summer.
You can bring your kayaks and paddle boards or the walk around the lake itself is beautiful.
