Triplet Falls & Rainforest Walk, Great Otway National Park
Triplet Falls is one of the highlights of the Otway National Park in Victoria about a 2.5-hour drive from Melbourne. Located in a beautiful rainforest, these stunning waterfalls are perfect for anyone who loves nature or adventure.

Triplet Falls, Otway National Park
The name Triplet Falls comes from the three separate waterfalls that flow together, making it a spectacular sight, especially after it rains. The water comes from Young’s Creek and is surrounded by towering trees, moss-covered logs, and green ferns, creating a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere.
The falls themselves are really beautiful, and so much better in person than the photos. For some reason the photos just don’t do the place justice, I wasn’t expecting too much after looking at images online before heading there, but was honestly impressed when we arrived, they are much prettier in person.

There is also a bit of history to discover here. As you walk through the area, you’ll see old tram tracks and machinery that were used for logging over 100 years ago. This makes Triplet Falls not only a natural wonder but also a place where you can learn about the past.
Rain Forest Walk, Triplet Falls

The walk to Triplet Falls is a loop track that is easy to follow. It is 1.9 km long and takes about an hour to complete.
There’s a parking area near the start of the track, with enough space for plenty of cars. From the car park, it’s a short walk to the start of the trail. You’ll also find public toilets and picnic tables nearby, which are handy if you want to have a snack before or after your walk.

As you walk, you’ll feel like you’re in another world. The rainforest is full of tall trees that provide shade and keep the air cool. There are several spots along the trail where you can stop to take photos.
There are various viewing platforms along with signs with information about the area’s plants, animals, and history. Keep an eye out for birds like lyrebirds and even other wildlife too.

The track has quite a few stairs and uneven parts, so be prepared. Make sure to wear good walking shoes because the path can be slippery, especially after it rains. It’s also a good idea to bring a jacket if you’re visiting in the cooler months, as it can get chilly in the forest.
Families with kids will enjoy the walk, but younger children might struggle with some of the steps as there are quite a few. The track is not wheelchair accessible or pram friendly.

The best time to visit is after it has rained, as the waterfalls will be at their most impressive. This is usually between May and September, but the track is open all year round. Each season brings its own beauty, so you can’t go wrong no matter when you visit.
If you’re planning a trip along the Great Ocean Road or just looking for a great day out, Triplet Falls is definitely worth a visit. It is also worth a day trip on it’s own if you pair it with the Otway Fly like we did. It is a short 8 minute walk away and a great experience worth the drive.
