voco Melbourne Central Review – Family Accommodation
A stylish, family-friendly Melbourne CBD hotel with spacious rooms, great dining and everything within walking distance. We spent two nights at voco Melbourne Central as a family of four over the school holiday period and it made the perfect base for a city stay with kids.

voco Melbourne Central Staycation Review
We spent Easter long weekend at voco Melbourne Central with our two kids in a connecting family room. We had breakfast at the buffet each morning and tried out the dinner at Blacksmith Bar and Grill one evening. There is so much to do nearby in the city that we were spoilt with activity options and had a fantastic weekend.

Location
voco Melbourne Central is right in the heart of Melbourne CBD, making it ideal if you want everything at your doorstep.
You’re surrounded by shops, restaurants and entertainment, We loved how easy it was to explore on foot, wandering through Melbourne’s famous laneways, and having Melbourne Central nearby where we shopped, ate and even went bowling.
Everything felt close and accessible, which makes a huge difference when staying in the city with kids.
Rooms

The hotel offers a range of room types to suit different travellers, including standard king and twin rooms, premium rooms with city views, and larger suites. For families, the family rooms are the standout option.
We stayed in a connecting family room and it worked perfectly for the four of us. We had 2 separate rooms, connected by a small private corridor area. Our kids loved having their own room, and we loved that we could check on them when needed.

Bothrooms were spacious with a smart layout. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the room had everything you need for a short stay including a minibar, tea and coffee facilities, a large TV, fast Wi-Fi and a modern bathroom with quality amenities.
One of the highlights was the floor-to-ceiling windows with beautiful city views. It really added to the experience, especially at night with the Melbourne skyline lit up, so pretty! In the mornings we watched the hot air balloons floating over the city at sunrise. Again, amazing!

Dining
We absolutely loved the food here, the dining was a highlight of our stay.
Breakfast was served as a buffet each morning, and it ticked all the boxes. There was a wide selection including eggs, bacon, pastries, cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurt. The kids were especially excited about the waffles, while I loved the barista-made coffee which is always a win and not something every hotel includes.
As it was Easter, they also served up hot crossed buns, and had some Easter décor and chocolate eggs as well.

We had dinner one night at Blacksmith Bar & Grill, the hotel’s signature restaurant. Not to be missed! We all absolutely loved the food here.
The menu focuses on modern Australian dishes, with a great mix of grilled meats, fresh seafood, salads and share-style plates. We shared a mix of meat and shared plates as well as deserts and cocktails too. It felt elevated but still relaxed enough for families, and the food was genuinely excellent.

Facilities
For a central city hotel, voco Melbourne Central offers some great extras.
There is an outdoor pool area is a great space to unwind after a day in the city, and a nice bonus if you’re travelling with kids. Plus it is heated so even in the cooler months you can still swim. There’s also a small gym for those who want to stay active, which we used each day.

Things to Do Melbourne Central
One of the biggest reasons to stay here is how much there is to do within walking distance.
We spent time exploring Melbourne Central for shopping, eating and playing! We had a a great afternoon at Strike Bowling where we had a game of bowling as well as laser tag, nothing like a bit of family competition! We also had lunch there as it was convenient and the menu has a range of food options.
We also checked out the super fun Hello Kitty Cafe Melbourne, so cute!
Hoyts Cinema is there too if you want to see a movie. Beyond that, you can easily wander through Melbourne’s iconic laneways, discover street art, stop at cafes, eat at China Town, or take a walk along the Yarra River if you walk a little further.
There’s a real mix of activities for families, whether you want something relaxed or more high-energy.
Final Thoughts
voco Melbourne Central is a fantastic option for families looking for a Melbourne CBD hotel that combines location, comfort and convenience.
The spacious family room, great onsite dining at Blacksmith Bar & Grill, and easy access to some of Melbourne’s best attractions made this a really enjoyable stay for us.
If you’re planning a city stay with kids and want everything within walking distance, this is a hotel that delivers on all fronts.
