Werribee Gorge State Park Circuit Walks| Family Hike Melbourne
The Werribee Gorge Circuit walk is a grade 3 family friendly hike in the Werribee Gorge State Park (which ironically is not near Werribee, but out west past Bacchus Marsh. There are 2 loops, depending on your fitness levels but both will get your heart rate up.

Werribee Gorge State Park
The Werribee Gorge State Park is around 8kms west of Bacchus Marsh. There is no public transport options so you can only arrive by car and is just under an hour from Melbourne.
The area is quite large and there are a few different hikes and circuits to choose from.
Werribee Gorge Circuit Walks
There are 2 circuit walks depending on how long you want to walk and your fitness levels.
Both of them require a moderate level of fitness, with some steps, steep hills and lots of uneven ground, so it is probably not suitable for younger children.
Be careful to follow the signage because both the short and full circuit start at the same places. The short circuit cuts through the middle giving you a short cut back to the start.

Short Werribee Gorge Circuit Walk
5kms (Approx 1.5- 2hrs).
This is a great one to start with if you aren’t sure about the full circuit. There are a few different entrances, but our suggestion is to start at the Meikles Picnic Area car park and walk anti clockwise from there. Follow signs for Short Circuit.
Full Werribee Gorge Circuit Walk
10kms (Approx 4 – 4.5hrs)
For those looking for more of a challenge the Werribee Gorge circuit walk is double the short circuit so give yourself plenty of time and daylight to complete.
Our suggestion is to start at Meikles Picnic Area car park and walk anti clockwise. This will get much of the steep uphill sections out the way first. Follow signs for Werribee Gorge Circuit.

There are signs everywhere, but some include both walks.

There are some great photo opportunities, make sure to stop, just breathe in the fresh air and relax.

Some areas include steps as well.

It feels like you are so far from any city.
