Williamstown Beach, Williamstown
If you are looking for a family friendly clean sandy beach in the western suburbs of Melbourne, you can’t go past Williamstown Beach, it is the best beach in the area.

Williamstown Beach
Just a short drive from Melbourne or an easy walk from the train station, Williamstown has become a popular destination for locals and tourists in the summer.
The long sandy beach is ideal to sunbathe or build sandcastles. The water is calm with small waves, and is patrolled near the surf club so it is perfect for families.

Fishing can be enjoyed from the Eastern pier, and there is also a boat ramp nearby.
Because of the calmness of the bay, it is great for kayaking or stand up paddle boarding most of the year too.

Williamstown beach is an easy walk to the Williamstown Botanical gardens which is a great place for a walk and picnic any time of the year. There are also a few parks and playgrounds nearby too.
You can find scattered restaurants along the esplanade, a kiosk, as well as public showers and toilets.
Over on the other side of the town you can find the main commercial part of Williamstown, just a 15minute walk, or a few minutes’ drive. Here you will have gorgeous city views of Melbourne and find the streets lined with cafes and restaurants.
Gem Pier is also in this area where you can catch a cruise on the Yarra River or pick up some fresh seafood.. The Tall Ship also departs from here.
There is a larger picnic area and playground for the kids.
