If you’re looking for a great picnic spot in Melbourne’s West, the Williamstown Botanic Gardens are the perfect escape. Nestled in the heart of the historic suburb of Williamstown right along the beach, this beautifully manicured garden is one of our favourite places for a picnic to relax.

Williamstown Botanic Gardens, Williamstown
The Williamstown Botanic Gardens is a 6-hectare garden near Williamstown Beach. The gardens date back to 1860 and feature a range of plants and trees, including native Australian flora, as well as exotic species from all around the world.

The gardens are a great place for a stroll as there are plenty of little walking tracks around. It is also a great spot for a picnic with stunning views and photo opportunities.

Weekends especially you will find picnic mats scattered all over the grassy areas.
There are toilets onsite as well as drinking fountains too.

The Williamstown Botanic Gardens is conveniently located near Williamstown beach which is only a short stroll up the road. There are a few spots to eat nearby, but it’s best to bring your own goodies and have a picnic.
On the other side of the town just a few minutes drive is the Williamstown waterfront, where you can enjoy stunning views of the city skyline and watch the ships come in and out of port.
You can find plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants in the area, as well as a huge playground at Gem Pier so you can easily make a day of it.
