Looking for a picnic spot in Melbourne’s South East with a view? Just 40 minutes from Melbourne, hidden between the bustling town centre of Berwick, and the busy highway, is the quiet and picturesque Wilson Botanic Park. A great spot for a family picnic or a family walk around the gardens.

It seems like a never-ending retreat, filled with beautifully kept gardens, native plants, hundreds of flower, calm lakes and endless tracks, and really feels like another world.
At the entrance is the rose garden, and an arched walkway lined with more roses. This area has been host to numerous garden wedding ceremonies.
There are several paths to choose from. The gardens are a maze of walking tracks and it will certainly take a few visits to walk them all.
The main lake, at the centre of the park, is home to hundreds of ducks and turtles. Visit during spring/summer and there is a very high chance you’ll see turtle hatchlings and families of ducks
The walking tracks will lead you up to the back of the park where you’ll find forests of majestic pines, a lookout with views of Berwick, a boardwalk, an amphitheatre, and a bird hide.
There is even a playground and several covered BBQ areas — perfect for a party, an afternoon walk or a relaxing picnic.
There is plenty of grassed areas and seats/benches scattered around the lake, so take a seat and fall in love with the serene views.
If you haven’t prepared a picnic, pay a visit to Gather: Food, Coffee & Co — located beside the main lake. They offer great coffee, famous Noisette pastries, cakes and other goodies — perfect fuel for exploring the vast gardens.
