Kyneton Botanical Gardens and Playground, Victoria
Kyneton is an easy 70km drive for Melbourne’s CBD and worth the day trip for the Botanic Garden alone. The garden was established in 1858, is home to a huge variety of trees including 17 listed by the National Trust and is home to a sprawling, nature based playground for all ages and abilities.

Kyneton Botanic Gardens
Kyneton Botanic Garden is the perfect place for a relaxing stroll under the trees but in the eyes of a child the Kyneton Community Park playground must be the shining glory of the garden.
Nestled under the well-established trees the play area blends in so well with the natural surroundings that the play equipment isn’t always obvious at first.

What could simply be a wooden gate is actually a maze. A mini ropes course is hung from huge logs that look like they could be old trees. Tractors and cubby houses make great spots for climbing.

The garden has easy access for everyone including prams and wheelchairs. There are accessible activities including a low rope net and basket swing. All areas are also dog friendly but all furry friends must remain on lead throughout.

In the summer months probably the most popular spot is the water play area. From 7 December to 9 March splash in bubblers and play in the water jets. The water is continuously monitored to meet health regulations.
There are numerous spots to share a meal with tables dotted throughout the gardens. Uncover spots are available as well and BBQs. Or bring a blanket and picnic under the trees.

If you don’t feel like packing food or BBQing stop by Country Cob Bakery and takeaway one of their award-winning pies or vanilla slice. Or head over to Piper Street for a top-notch selection of cafes and restaurants.

If you need more of a walk, check out the Campaspe River Walk a few steps away from the playground. A lovely 3.5 km path that’s great for bird watching and there are also picnic tables to stop and have a rest and snack.
