Little Murmur, Arts Centre Melbourne

Watch bodies and words fly like flocks of birds, a murmuration, a little murmur at the Arts Centre in Melbourne. Award-winning Aakash Odedra Company return with Little Murmur, a story dedicated to young audiences that highlights dance as a vital mode of expression when letters and words fail.

Little Murmur

Little Murmur is a dance theatre show for everyone age 7+ that features ground breaking projection, an extraordinary soundscape and a blizzard of paper and confetti.

Based on the true story of one child’s struggle with letters and words. Little Murmur is about facing challenges and overcoming the odds.

Diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, Aakash Odedra found school very challenging: he spelt his name wrongly until he was 21 and it wasn’t until he “found the missing ‘A’” that he felt he belonged. Defined by his learning difficulties, not his abilities, dance became his mode of expression.

Combining visual design and technology with dance and humour, Little Murmur explores the warped and exaggerated realities of living in a world you struggle to process.

Based on the true story of one child’s struggle with letters and words. Little Murmur is about facing challenges and overcoming the odds. Over the years, we’ve all faced challenges to overcome the odds. That’s what makes Little Murmur feel so relevant and timely.

Little Murmur premiered at The Spark Festival, Leicester 2022 and toured theatres, schools, festivals, libraries and community spaces across the UK. Since then it has played theatres and arts centres across the UK and worldwide, including the 2022 Imaginate Festival.

“The sheer authority and brilliance of the show’s movement and dance, and the superb animated sequences which accompany it … strike a profound chord with his seven to 14 year-old audience as he finds his truest means of self-expression in supremely eloquent movement.” The Scotsman on Little Murmur.
