Collingwood Children’s Farm, Collingwood
Collingwood Children’s Farm is a non-profit Community Farm in the heart of the city of Melbourne. It is a place for kids and families to learn, explore, spend time in nature and connect with community.

Collingwood Children’s Farm
Founded in 1979 to help connect children overcome adversity and get them back to nature, the Collingwood Children’s Farm has been a much beloved green haven in the city for decades.
Set beside the Birrarung (Yarra River) and on the grounds of the Abbotsford Convent, the children’s farm was originally developed with children who might not have their own back gardens to come grow vegetables and interact with animals.

Not much has changed in their approach over the years but it has become a popular place for families to come and interact with animals. There are daily workshops with farmers and kids can cuddle guinea pigs and pet goats.

There are plenty of spots to eat and grab a great coffee. The Farm Café is inside the Children’s Farm or there are multiple options at the Convent. Many Sundays you will often find farmers or artisan markets full of local produce and crafts.
This is such a great place to get some exercise with the family and is also well set up for easy access with prams. Furry friends are allowed on lead too but can’t go in the paddocks with the farm animals.

A family favourite is the Apiary. You can learn everything you ever wanted to know about bees.

In the warmer months when the bees are active, the Apiary is open to visitors the second and fourth Sunday of the month at certain times of the day.
You can chat with experienced bee keepers, buy local pots of honey and sometimes the kids can even don the beekeeper suit and get up close and personal with the bees.

The Collingwood Children’s Farm is a wonderful place to have a birthday party. Farmer’s talks and hayrides make for lots of fun.
And don’t forget their glorious Winter Bonfire every year to celebrate the Winter Solstice.
